Apartment Ramp Railing and Bike Area Guard
Project Overview
Black guardrail system built around the concrete ramp, landing and bike parking area between a four-story brick apartment building and its neighbor.
Analysis
The ramp and bike racks share one open courtyard with a drop at the ramp edge. The guard was laid out to separate the sloped path from the bike area without blocking access.
Process
Survey with the property manager, fabrication, coating, two-day installation, and a walkthrough with the building superintendent.
Outcome
A compliant guard around the ramp and bike courtyard that keeps residents on the paved path.

Materials Used
Steel posts and top rails with vertical bar infill, satin black coating, welded base plates, and anchors into the concrete ramp and slab.
Methods & Techniques
Sloped sections fabricated to the measured grade, posts anchored on both sides of the ramp, corner bays mitred and welded in the shop.
